Cottage Holidays in Berwick Upon Tweed
Situated in the historic town of Berwick our self-catering holiday homes each offer a base from which to explore this historic town and its surroundings, and an opportunity for a relaxed and comfortable holiday. Whether you want to get away from it all on our beautiful beaches, explore the remote valleys of the Cheviots, enjoy the inspiring gardens such as Alnwick and Howick Hall, trace the history of Berwick’s turbulent past through its buildings and architecture, or enjoy the stimulation and culture of cities like Edinburgh and Newcastle, Berwick has a lot to offer. We also have an excellent Local Records Centre for those keen to tace their ancestry.
This is ideal walking and cycling country and there are so many castles to be discovered that a week would not be enough. Edinburgh and Newcastle are a short journey away either by road or rail.
Berwick stands at the estuary of the River Tweed and was at one time the richest port in England thanks to its export of grain and salmon. The town retains the impressive ramparts and walls built to keep it safe. These, together with the Barracks (the first purpose-designed barracks to be built in this country) are in the care of English Heritage. A walk round the walls takes about 45 minutes and is a relaxing way to end the day, providing wonderful views of the coast and river, and over the roofs of the town.
North Northumberland and the borders provide for a wide variety of interests. The area is famous for its beautiful sandy beaches and its romantic castles.
There are a number of golf courses in the area including The Magdalene Fields Golf club in Berwick which is open to visitors. Nearby, St Abbs Head and Eyemouth are at the heart of the local diving community. Boat trips are available from Seahouses to the Farne Islands to view the seabirds. The Sustrans route no 1 coastal cycle track runs south from Berwick to Newcastle. Horse riding is available at several local centres and we have Berwick Rangers, the only English football team to play in the Scottish league, and the Berwick Bandits Speedway team.
There are good transport links to both Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Edinburgh either by road or rail.
We have taken a lot of care to ensure that our property conforms to required standards and provides a welcoming and comfortable environment for your holiday.
